Craft Beer from the other side.
Inspiration, the idea comes at the most unexpected moment, in places where the strength of the environment leads you to think slowly and make decisions that will change your life forever.
In the case of Cervezas Eterna, the inspiration arrived in Mexico surrounded by the spirit of a country where life is celebrated in a unique way and the dead are remembered with love and respect.
With that affection and respect, Nora Arrastia, together with her partners, decided to create this Madrilenian Craft Brewery whose center of operations is located in Beer Bang, a local specialized in craft beer from Madrid within the Guindalera Market, in the neighborhood of the same name.
With a nomadic philosophy, they elaborate their three modalities of craft beer in the facilities of other Madrid brewers, such as CCVK (Compañía Cervecera del Valle del Kahs).
The nomadic spirit along with the passion for brewing beer and the knowledge acquired over the years, both in her trips through the United States and in the "experiments" carried out with her father, give to the Eterna beers a very special character.
Nora is the creator of the Cervezas Eterna recipes and in 2014, after more than 14 years dedicated to marketing and advertising, she decided to take a radical turn in her life and dedicate herself to brewing professionally.
Since then, she has released 6 different beer styles: Indian Pale Ale, Blonde Ale, Russian Imperial Stout, Saison, White IPA and Winter Ale.
We had the opportunity to chat with Nora at her place where she told us that one of her goals is to value the pairing capacity of beer.
In our conversation we talked about the most unpleasant part of the process of making craft beer, its sale and the struggle to open a hole, increasingly demanded by true lovers of good beer, against the large industrial beer corporations.
Proof of this is the radical change in advertising and in the offer of new "master recipes" by traditional brands.
On the other hand, he told us how nice and rewarding it is to be located in a market such as La Guindalera.
The people of the neighborhood are varied, but stands out for an "adult" population that, as is traditional in Madrid, is open to new offers and sensations.
Nora told us how many "older women" are already regular clients and that they come to their place to ask about what beer to take for a dinner or family meal.
Eternal Beers. Tradition & Innovation
Craft beers are here to stay and Cervezas Eterna bets on premium 100% natural craft beers, and original recipes where they dominate the four basic ingredients: water, malt, hops and yeast.
How we commented make different types of craft beer seasonally but currently have 3 fixed beers:
Eterna IPA (India Pale Ale)
Beer of British origin. It is an amber beer, with copper tones and a certain turbidity, crowned by a creamy foam and great persistence.
The nose is very floral, vegetable and citrus, with touches of freshly cut grass. In the mouth it is a bitter beer, slightly astringent, which is balanced with the sweetness of the malts used.
- IBU: 56
- Alcohol: 6% Vol.
Pairing: Red meats, strong, spicy or spicy foods. Desserts with chocolate.
Eterna Rubia (Lager Helles)
Inspired by her travels through Mexican lands in search of something fresh, light and at the same time full of flavor. It is a beer of crystalline yellow color, with a white foam of medium persistence.
Both in aroma and flavor highlights the malt, although there are certain touches of hops, which do not result cloying.
It is a very fresh blonde, light, easy and malty final, without being very sweet.
- IBU: 22
- Alcohol: 4,5% vol.
Pairing: White meat, fish, seafood, poultry, light meals and sweet desserts and citrus.
Eterna NEIPA (New England IPA)
Orange-colored beer, cloudy and topped by a creamy and persistent foam. The nose is an explosion of aromas, which highlights the tropical fruit such as mango and passion fruit and a remarkable hops character.
The palate is a creamy beer and despite being very hoppy, it does not present much bitterness. In the mouth, fruit notes stand out again.
- IBU: 40
- Alcohol: 6,5% Vol.
- Used Hops: Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic, Cashmere, El Dorado and Vic Secret.
